At first glance, a pair of high-end Nordic walking poles may seem expensive, especially when you can find €40 models in supermarkets. But if you look closely at what lies behind the price — materials, design, assembly, durability — you realise that a high-end model can be… more economical over time, and above all far more pleasant to use.
Material and carbon grade
The first cost item is carbon. Not all carbons are equal. An entry-level "carbon" shaft can be a composite with a low fibre percentage, a long way from the T700, T800 or higher carbons used in aerospace or performance cycling.
A high-end pole uses a high-grade carbon, with precise weaving and processing, which brings:
- Greater stiffness: no parasitic flex, the push goes into the ground.
- Superior durability: the pole withstands intensive use without cracking.
- A lower weight at equal strength.

Grips, straps and tips: the details that (really) make the difference
On a low-end pole, the grip is often hard plastic, the strap approximate, the tip standard steel. In use, that means slipping hands, rubbing, blisters, a penalised movement, and tips that wear out fast.

- The grips are ergonomic, often cork or technical rubber, to absorb perspiration and improve grip.
- The straps come in several sizes (S/M/L), are precise, enveloping, detachable, and let you truly release the grip in the rear phase.

French design, assembly in an ESAT

The MØNARC® Arcs de Marche are designed in France by Christian Pelèse and his team, and assembled in an ESAT (a sheltered workshop employing people with disabilities) in north-east France. In other words: by buying a pair of MØNARC® poles, you are also funding hours of supported work for people with disabilities. The price reflects that choice.

How much does a good pole really cost… over 5 years?
Looking only at the sticker price, an entry-level pole always seems more attractive than a high-end model. But as soon as you think in terms of several years of practice, the calculation changes.
Unreliable equipment can bend, break or become uncomfortable after a few seasons. It then ends up at the back of a cupboard, and a new pair has to be bought. Conversely, a well-designed, well-made pole can accompany you for years, keeping the same level of comfort and efficiency.
